Last week we chatted about how to prevent stress eating, and what to do when you’re going for another bag of chips at 10 pm because you’re worried about all that is going on around you. This week, we’re chatting about how to be healthy when stressed, especially longer period of stress.

As women, we often put our own needs last, but it’s important to take care of ourselves so that we can be at our best for our loved ones and responsibilities.

Here are some tips on how to be healthy when stressed!

  1. Do not do intermittent fasting:
While intermittent fasting can be effective in certain times, it is not recommended for everyone, especially during stressful times. Fasting can put additional stress on your body and leave you feeling fatigued, irritable, and put unnecessary stress on your metabolism, and hormones.
  2. Do more restorative workouts:
High-intensity workouts like HIIT and running can result in high spikes of cortisol, which can contribute to more stress on the body and anxiety. Instead, try more restorative workouts like yoga, Pilates, or power walking, incline walking or lifting weights.
  3. Prioritize sleep:
Getting enough sleep is crucial for our physical and mental well-being. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night and try to establish a consistent sleep routine to help you wind down and relax before bed. Easier said than done, I know, but in periods of stress, this is so important.
  4. Consider taking magnesium, a B-complex, and/or electrolytes:
These supplements can help support your body during times of stress and promote relaxation and calmness. Your body uses up higher levels of these nutrients when under stress, and if we can replenish them, we can help the health of our cells.
  5. Don’t stress about a less than ideal diet:
While it’s important to eat a healthy and balanced diet, don’t put additional stress on yourself by trying to maintain a perfect diet during stressful times. Instead, focus on making healthy choices when you can and give yourself grace when you need it.

I hope these tips are helpful for you! Remember to take care of yourself and prioritize your well-being during times of stress. If you have any questions or additional tips to share, feel free comment below!
