I recently had the privilege of my cousin throwing me a “power shower.” Having been to a lot of baby showers over the years, I thought I’d share a little bit more about this power shower idea for other friends and mamas who may want to host something similar!
A power shower is a fantastic idea for moms who are celebrating baby number two or three and feel uncomfortable about the idea of having a shower (i.e. ME). This gives friends and family who want to do something nice for you the chance without feeling obligated to sit around and have all eyes on you for hours.
Here’s how to host a Power Shower:
- Have the mama park her car out front and center of the house where the party is being held. Leave the trunk open, and put a big sign that says “gift table.” As guests walk in, they can put the gifts right in the trunk.
- When the guests walk in, hand them a timer like this one for 60 minutes. Each guest may only stay for an hour max. When their timer goes off, they say their goodbyes. It seems silly, but guests are thankful to have a time limit to the party. Everyone’s busy. Let them go about their day or evening.
- The only “game” is where you write your own thank you notes to the mama. Have pre-stamped cards ready for guest to write in. Sample card would read something like: “Dear Ashley, thank you so much for the adorable unicorn onesies, the baby soap and lotion, and the teething necklace! Baby girl is going to love them so much.” Then, mama can decide if she wants to write more in it or not, but all the mama has to do is put her return address on the envelope and put it in the mailbox! Whose got time for those anyways!
- Serve finger foods, treats, and drinks for the non-preggers. Chalene had a beautiful assortment of meats, cheeses, crackers, fruits and treats.
- Mama and guests can just mingle for the hour, take pictures, and chat! Simple and so much fun.
- Send leftovers home with the mama or other friends!
- The host has a quick clean up, everyone is happy and had a great time!
I can’t thank my cousin Chalene enough for hosting my own power shower! If you like this idea, share it with your friends or comment below!
